Criteria for Adoption
Steps to Foster Hope
Adoption Requirements
1. Mandatory Bird Education Session
All adopters must complete our Bird Care & Safety Session covers: diet, nutrition, safe handling, enrichment, noise expectations, and emergency care. Completion is required before any bird leaves the sanctuary.
2. Required Cage Size (No Exceptions)
• Small Parrots: Min 24”x24”x24”, 1/2” bar spacing.
• Medium Parrots: Min 32”x23”x35”, 5/8”–3/4” spacing.
• Large Parrots: Min 36”x48”x60”, 1”–1 1/4” spacing.
If you lack a cage, we will provide one at cost.
3. Children Safety Policy
No adoption will be approved if a child under 10 is the primary caretaker. Families must demonstrate safe handling and respect for boundaries.
4. Mandatory Vet Enrollment
Adopters must sign up with an avian veterinarian during the process, agreeing to annual wellness exams and providing proof of a visit within 30 days.
5. Home Environment Requirements
No smoking, no Teflon/PTFE cookware, no scented aerosols, and secure windows. No unsupervised interaction with other pets.
6. Rehoming Fees
Fees vary by species to cover vet exams and sanctuary care. Total cost includes a cage if provided by us.
7. QC Service Area

8. Adoption Denial Policy
We reserve the right to deny adoption for unsafe environments or incompatibility. The bird’s wellbeing is our priority.
9. Lifetime Return Guarantee
Wings of Hope will always accept a bird back. No bird adopted will ever be abandoned.
Protection Projects
Between urban sprawl and poaching, wild birds are under threat. We strive to counter these impacts through public awareness and green living. Your participation in local initiatives and garden restorations makes a massive difference for wildlife.
